Screening for oral cancer can be performed during your routine dental exam. This includes looking for lesions, mouth sores, or abnormal areas inside your mouth. If lesions are found, additional testing may be required to help diagnose which treatment plan is right for you.
Early detection of oral cancer is critical in increasing a patient’s chance of survival; recognizing and managing precancerous lesions are extremely important in prevention. The American Dental Association recommends all adults undergo periodic oral cancer screenings during their regular dental visits.
